A member of the original Kabuki crew who died in a Maelstrom drive-by ambush sometime during the gang war arc. Malcolm witnessed it — watched him bleed out in the back of a car — and the trauma sent him home for an extended period. He didn't leave his apartment until Motoko came to get him.
Sam never gets a scene of his own in the story. He is referenced once, in past tense, as the specific weight behind Malcolm's silence. The name is all the story gives him.
